Kristen Mather de Andrade’s biography reads like that of not one, but three people: a clarinetist, a vocalist, and a producer based in New York, whose soul and story is deeply intertwined with Brazil and its culture, and whose music blends classical, jazz, and Brazilian influences. Her album SEM FIM unapologetically reflects all of the above.
The sound is both elegant and effervescent. Mather de Andrade’s velvety contralto is a delight, as is the tight knit of the supporting 15-person ensemble. SEM FIM is rich, warm, comforting, and highly, highly enjoyable.
